Fernando Torres was the hero for Spain by firing them to Euro 2008 glory against Germany in Vienna and ending 44 years of Spain underachievement. Torres struck in the 33rd minute at Ernst Happel Stadion and despite the efforts of Germany skipper Michael Ballack, they held on to their lead to spark wild celebrations in Austria’s capital.

How to kick a soccer ball and getting rid of the toe kick

Saturday, June 28th, 2008

How many times have you heard it yelled from the sidelines? “Kick with you laces, not your toe!” Well it really isn’t the fault of the player if you understand the evolution of the soccer kick. The problem is that most parents and many coaches don’t realize this is impossible to change without a “process”. We studied this problem in our research which lasted over two years. This one came pretty quickly.

A child doesn’t change anything about their natural walking or running stride when the first start to kick a soccer ball. It is almost like the soccer ball just happens to get in the way of their natural stride. As we walk or run as humans our toe naturally points forward as it moves forward. Keeping the toe down would cause us to walk or run looking like a Clydesdale horse. Also, when we bring our leg forward there is VERY little clearance between the bottom of the foot and the ground. Pointing the toe down will cause it to hit the ground, often causing serious injury.

A child should first learn to kick with an angle kick. An angle kick allows the toe to be pointed slightly outward and away from our body. Doing this reduces the need for so much “clearance”. Also, the child must realize that in order to create clearance, they must “shorten the length of their leg”. Not easy for an 8 year to understand. However, as shown in BLAST THE BALL , there are two simple methods to help.

1) Learn the V swing. The V swing is performed by all advanced players in all their kicks. They just don’t realize it. Keeping the knee slightly bent as it swings through, “shortens the leg”.

2) Also, raising the up slightly by lifting at the hip will give good clearance. Leaving the flat on the ground we want the player to point their toe to the ground. However, they must accomplish this by raising that HIP not the leg or knee. Trying to picture this training in writing is difficult. However, once you see it in action you’ll be amazed at how something so simple can change a soccer player for life.

The different between leather and synthetic football boots

Monday, June 16th, 2008

Football boots material come in 2 basic materials; synthetic and leather.

Leather

This material Offer the best feel, fit and comfortable for any football feet, but are also more expensive than the synthetic boots. Full-grain leather football boot are strong and durable, while the other leather such as Kangaroo leather are more flexible, comfort and better on feel. The more softer of the leather, than it is more better feel for the ball, however the boot also less for durable. Leather football boot also absorb more water than synthetic boots and not recommended for constant use on wet surface.

Synthetic

Synthetic football boot are ideal for most entry and professional level players. Synthetic football boot are more cheaper than leather football boot, but it is almost do not offer a good feel for ball and do not last as long as the well-cared leather football boot. However it’s contain some sort of water treatment technology and its a good choice for better under bad playing conditions. Synthetic football boot also more easier to clean and dry out than the leather boot.

Tips when buying football boots

Thursday, June 5th, 2008

There are a many different types of football boots or soccer cleats for the North American language, for players to choose from due to the different types of surfaces that soccer can be played on. From synthetic plastic uppers to Adidas look “Predator” model, the choices can be extremely hard even for the professional players. But there are some areas that you can refer as a tips of what you should be looking for when buying football boots.

Low cost synthetic plastic uppers are suit for the occasional player but for those playing at a higher level there are comfort and feel to buy a kangaroo leather built upper or just the modern lightweight hi-tech synthetic boots. But What type of studs should you look for or the type of studs you need it’s all depends on what surfaces or field you will be playing on.

Astro turf trainers, known for dozens of short rubber studs are obviously for best use on synthetic pitches. For dry grass surfaces, you can choose a moulded studs. They are a little longer and give more grip on grass but are still comfortable enough to wear on hard ground. As for wet or muddy surfaces you can use a removable studs football boots. It can provide maximum grip on soft ground for running and turning.

How about the football boots prices? With so many choice from various manufacturers there will be a headache when it comes to prices. An ordinary football boots will start as low as USD35 for a basic pair of plastic built boots while high quality or branded football boots available to the consumer market can run to USD125 or more per pair.

How to consider when choosing a pair of football boots? When choosing a football boots always try on with the same thickness of socks as you would play in. Try with some pairs of different brands and in different sizes to find what is most the comfortable for you and still gives you enough of a feel and touch for the ball through the boot. As you will be wearing the boots in action for 90 minutes at a time so comfort and fit should always be main considerations over colour and aesthetic style.
